April Performances
Aziza Nawal will be performing at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival Saturday April 9th @ 12:30pm on the main stage. We will be presenting various folkloric and fusion stylings from the Middle East and beyond.
On Sunday April 10th, Aziza Nawal will be performing with the amazing live band Boom Boom Shake! Showtimes are throughout the day so check the GaRenFest website or when you arrive.

Jillina’s BDExperience comes to Atlanta February 7-9
My long time friend and mentor, Jillina, is returning to Atlanta in 2020. She is bringing her latest production, Wizard of Oz, as well as offering a weekend of workshops.
I have had the honor and pleasure of performing with Belly Dance Evolution on two tours – Alice in Wonderland and Fantasm: Odyssey of Dreams. Working with Jillina and her talented staff was an inspiration not only to my personal experience as a performer, but as an instructor as well.
When it was announced that Jillina was returning with BDExperience, I was thrilled to learn there were opportunities for a lead role. I decided to go for it. I’m proud to say that I was selected to play the part of the Scarecrow! Which, by the way, was my favorite character from the original movie.
We are working hard to learn the choreography via online coaching and will assemble for a little less than a week in February to rehearse. Many of us will be meeting each other for the first time! One of the things I have enjoyed by being a part of the expanding Belly Dance Evolution family, was connecting with dancers from across the US and the world. I have learned so much from everyone involved and not just incredible feedback on my dance skills, but what it takes to make a show like this happen. This has informed every show I have been involved with since and I have Jillina to thank.

Intro to Restaurant Performing on January 26
A group of us Atlanta-area Belly Dancers have teamed up to develop a series of workshops and seminars to help prepare dancers for restaurant dancing, private/corporate events, festivals and more! I am proud to be a part of this amazing series!
Collectively, this group has decades of experience and lessons-learned to share with anyone interested in dancing (belly dancing) professionally!
I will be kicking off this series with a guide to restaurant performances! From costuming, to working the room, to music selection and understanding the restaurant business, I will provide you with a great overview to get you started! Deatails below!

Aziza Nawal to perform and teach with Issam Houshan!

Aziza Nawal will be teaching and performing with the legendary drummer Issam Houshan later this month. she met Issam over 10 years ago when she was a guest performer with Bellydance Superstars. He was delighted with her performance which happened to be one of her signature drum solos. She had made such an impression on him and fortunately they met once more at a workshop sponsored by Petite Jamilla in Alabama just a few months later. Aziza Nawal had pulled out yet another drum solo for the audiences delight at the show. Issam was sure to let her know how much he enjoyed her performances and eluded to working with her in the future.
Now it is finally happening!!! Aziza Nawal will teach with Issam and perform in a special show featuring live drumming and music by Issam.
Salimpour Tribute and Issam Houshan Show
As part of the Suhaila Intensive weekend sponsored by AFBD, the show will also feature students who are testing for Suhaila certification. In the second half of the show, Aziza Nawal’s special group of students who perform as Banat Nawal plus fellow Belly Dance Evolution sisters (Fatin and Samora) will perform Aziza Nawal’s choreography to Issam’s recorded music. Two other BDE sisters Heidi and Charlie have created something special for the show as well! The show would of course not be complete without a couple of performances from Aziza Nawal and Issam Houshan, King of Drum!

We are extremely excited to announce that AFBD is moving in January 2015!!!! Same zip code, still in Midtown but a much BIGGER dance floor, more class options and shared space with Miss Belly Dance, top seller in wholesale Belly Dance Costumes and ethnic dance jewelry!! We are so thrilled to be partnering with our new family at Miss Belly Dance!!!
As of January 2015, AFBD will occupy the space formerly known as Pera Dance studio! Over 2000 square feet of dance floor, lounge area, private AFBD office, 2 restrooms! Same class schedule but MORE class options!

What’s changing? We’re giving the studio a new look! Over the next 2 months, Faaridah, Nahari and Uncle Denny will be busy painting, designing and decorating our new space.
